Abstract(s)
advir.
The main goal of this paper is to understand how volunteer programs in the security forces are implemented and structured in Western countries and to analyze how a similar project could be implemented in Portugal. To this end, the characteristics of several police volunteering programs already consolidated on the European continent and in the United States have been verified. Then, the existing perception on this issue was collected from professionals in the security forces and from potential volunteers of these programs. Three groups were thus defined for data collection, using focus groups, aimed at assessing the level of acceptance of this concept, the characteristics of the police volunteer program that best fits the Portuguese social context, as well as any barriers and advantages that could come from this program
