Abstract(s)
Although there is legislation and support that safeguards the integration and employability of people with intellectual disabilities, these people still face daily barriers to this right that belongs to everyone. Despite the efforts of public entities and professional training centers, local resource centers and even companies, in complying with legislation and adapting workspaces and training to different specificities - to facilitate these processes integration -, these efforts h ave not been enough for people with intellectual disabilities to gain access to the job market like the remaining active participants in society. Thus, and taking into account the scarcity of data that allows us to understand, in Portugal, the employability of people with disabilities, we seek to identify barriers and facilitators to the professional integration of people with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to understand what are the barriers according to professional training professionals and companies (with and without experience in employing people with intellectual disabilities); what are the facilitators and good practices according to professional training professionals and companies (with and without experience in employing people with intellectual disabilities); What changes and adjustments for the future are still necessary to implement from the perspective of professional training professionals and companies?. Through semi-structured interviews, it was possible to understand the perspectives of two professional training centers, a local resource center, four companies with experience in the professional integration of people with intellectual disabilities and three companies with no experience, about the three research questions mentioned above.
