Abstract(s)
The present work had the objective of employing the tools of Lean Manufacturing in the fabrication process of carcasses for electric motors. The focus of the study is on reducing setup times by the usage of SMED and by upgrading the tools involved in the manufacturing process to decrease overall process time. The work is developed while following the DMAIC methodology, in which the involved processes are mapped, the activities times are measured, the possible improvements and modifications are analyzed, the developed projects are applied, and finally both control and documentation of the new process are performed. By implementing these new production methods, the machine gains about 20% more in its capacity, reducing the extra shifts for compensating production and significantly increasing the efficiency of the production line. Hence, it is evidenced the relevance of an improved setup and of a good management of machining tooling on the total time of production.
