Mediante duas linhas de investigação, uma teórica e outra prática, realizou-se um estudo sobre a técnica hoje conhecida como chin-off, utilizada na execução do violino barroco. Através de uma revisão das fontes primárias da época conheceram-se os diferentes modos de segurar o violino existentes nos séculos XVII e XVIII. A realização de dois recitais feitos em paralelo à linha teórica permitiu a colocação em prática da técnica chin-off e dos conhecimentos adquiridos nas disciplinas do mestrado. A realização de um teste psicoacústico, mediante um software criado explicitamente para esta investigação permitiu comprovar a repercussão da técnica chin-off no resultado sonoro.
Through two lines of research, one theoretical and another practical, I developed a study about the chin-off technique nowadays used for holding and playing the baroque violin. Different ways of holding the violin during 17th and 18th centuries were studied by reviewing primary sources from that period. In parallel with the theoretical line, two recitals took place, which allowed to experiment and execute the chin-off technique and to consolidate the knowledge obtained from the different disciplines of the Master. A psycho-acoustic test, carried out using software specifically created for this investigation, showed the impact of chin-off technique in the sound.
