As vassouras apresentam um conjunto de limitações e dificuldades distintas das baquetas, ao mesmo tempo que nos presenteiam com uma panóplia de novas possibilidades. A capacidade de exploração de vários timbres e movimentos através da manipulação da vassoura resulta numa ferramenta que se torna particularmente dependente da criatividade de cada performer; fica à mercê do seu gosto pessoal e das suas escolhas e capacidades. Neste trabalho, procuro expor os princípios básicos das vassouras e, posteriormente, tento colocar em evidência várias formas distintas de os pôr em prática.
The brushes present a completely new set of limitations and difficulties in drumming, while presenting us with a myriad of new possibilities. The possibility of exploring various timbres by manipulating the brush in so many different ways results in a tool that becomes particularly dependent on the creativity of each performer; it is his or her personal taste, choices, and abilities that defines the sound. In this project, I try to expose the basic principles of brush playing and, afterwards, I try to put in evidence several distinct ways of putting them into practice.
