Abstract(s)
The new coronavirus pandemic in 2020 forced, among others, companies and universities to migrate their working and teaching methods to the remote format. As a result, teachers and students had to adapt to a new routine for carrying out their tasks, previously in person. Knowing how to use technology in favor of more efficient and effective teaching was one of the biggest challenges that the teachers faced during this period of suspension of face-to-face classes. Thus, the present study aims to evaluate how the teachers of the accounting course at the UTFPR in Brazil and at ISCAP in Portugal perceive the use of information technology in the process of distance learning (DL) during the period of the new coronavirus pandemic and in the future. To meet this objective, the profiles of the teachers surveyed were analyzed, as well as their perceptions regarding the use of technologies and the convergences and divergences between the two countries. From this, a literature review was carried out to identify and understand concepts, raise relevant aspects on the subject, and what has been said about education during the period of isolation due to the pandemic. The results showed several convergences between the two countries, mainly regarding the lack of training or capacity building for the use of the tools, as well as the challenge of keeping students motivated and participatory during classes. It was also noted that teachers differed in their satisfaction with the participation of students in distance learning activities. Thus, it is possible to state that the study highlighted the importance of technological resources for remote teaching, as well as the difficulty still existing in the management of these tools, and some limitations of interaction existing in non-presential relationships. As a future study, we suggest investigating with a larger number of respondents from other educational institutions, in addition to the application of questionnaires in a larger number of countries in order to obtain more accurate results. Following the same line of research, it is also suggested the application of a study directed to the students, in order to obtain their perceptions regarding distance learning in relation to traditional teaching.
