Abstract(s)
Industrial maintenance plays an essential role in ensuring the availability and reliability of equipment, especially in demanding contexts such as the construction and mining sector. This research was developed as part of a curricular internship carried out at the engineering and construction company Mota-Engil and aimed to analyze and optimize the maintenance operations of two categories of heavy mining equipment, hydraulic excavators and off highway trucks, used in a project in Moatize, Mozambique. To achieve this, an exploratory and descriptive research methodology was adopted, supported by the evaluation of historical maintenance data provided by the company. The analyses carried out included the study of costs and frequency of both preventive and corrective interventions, the validation of the compliance of the preventive maintenance plans with the manufacturer's recommendations, the identification of the most critical systems through Pareto analysis, the classification of the most frequent failures in these systems, and the evaluation of equipment performance indicators. The results revealed a high rate of corrective maintenance, particularly in the hydraulic systems of the excavators and the rear tires of the trucks. It was also found that the maintenance orders often lacked important information, especially regarding the description of failures, which was a limitation for the technical analysis of events. Based on the conclusions reached, a set of improvement actions was proposed, aiming to reduce maintenance costs, increase equipment availability, and enhance the operational reliability of the mining fleet.
