Abstract(s)
O presente projecto reflecte vários meses de integração, pesquisa e trabalho no serviço de pediatria do Instituto Português de Oncologia e tem como objectivo mostrar duas visões distintas da mesma doença numa faixa etária muito jovem, que nos alerta para o que é viver com a responsabilidade de ter que lutar pela vida, sem nunca se esquecerem de viver também enquanto crianças.
Neste projecto de cariz documental as histórias são contadas através de fragmentos do quotidiano de cada criança, onde se evidenciam os pontos comuns e as diferenças entre elas.
Sentimentos, ideias e relações são captadas através da câmara fotográfica da autora e dos doentes, misturando desta forma dois pontos de vista distintos que acabam por convergir no mesmo sentido. Por um lado podemos observar imagens com uma visão exterior à doença através do olhar da fotógrafa e por outro, uma visão interior, de quem tem que viver com a doença dia após dia.
As fontes e pesquisas envolvidas neste trabalho centram-se, principalmente, em torno do trabalho de Jo Spence (1934-1992) “A Picture of Health?” e na sua teoria do uso da fotografia como uma terapia (foto terapia), no ensaio de Susan Sontag (1933-2004), “Illness as Metaphor”, no trabalho “People with Aids” de Nicholas Nixon (1947) e nos retratos de Richard Avedon (1923-2004) sobre o seu pai (vide figuras 15,16 e 17, p.25).
This project reflects several months of integration, research and work in a cancer hospital and aims to show two different views of the same disease at a very young age, which alerts us to what it is to live with the responsibility of having to fight for life, without never forget to live as children too. In this documentary project, stories are told in fragments of daily life of each child, which highlight the commonalities and differences between them. Feelings, ideas, relationships are captured through the photographer's camera and patients, thereby mixing two different points of view that eventually converge in the same direction. On the one hand we see images with an exterior view of the disease through the vision of the photographer and on the other hand an inside look of who has to live with the disease every day.
