- Urinary incontinence in pregnancy and postpartumPublication . Santos, Paula Clara; Ferreira, M.; Santos, R.; Vale, S.; Marques, A.; Abreu, S.; Mota, J.The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) before pregnancy, during pregnancy and following childbirth, and also to analyze the impact of a health education campaign about SUI prevention following childbirth.
- Influence of chair height in the peak torque forces produced by the lower limb joints during the chair rise movementPublication . Melo, Cristina; Fernandes, A.R.; Barbosa, A.; Moutinho, B.The main reason for this study was to analyze the influence of chair height on maximum peak torque forces (MPTF) produced by lower limb through three major joints: hip, knee and ankle when standing up.
- The impact of a specific, moderate and safe home-based exercise programme on fall risk factors in older portuguese peoplePublication . Melo, Cristina; Kuisma, R.; Trew, M.The impetus for this study was that a high percentage of older Portuguese people are sedentary and therefore the aim of this study was to design, implement and assess a nine month home-based, moderate, specific exercise programme focusing on fall risk factors for Portuguese older people over the age of 65.
- Idiopathic facial palsy and physical therapy: a guideline proposal following a review of practicePublication . Ferreira, M.; Santos, P.; Duarte, J.To evaluate the efficacy of physical therapy in different phases of idiopathic facial palsy.
- The influence of upper limb bilateral flexion on thoracic extensors strength and muscular activityPublication . Magina, V.H.; Melo, Cristina; Carvalho, Paulo; Barbosa, P.; Moreira, C.; Santos, RubimThe main objective of this study was to verify the effect of a bilateral upper limb flexion exercise (180◦gleno-humeral flexion, with straight elbows) with isometric contraction at the end of the range of motion, on the thoracic extensors strength and muscle activity.
- Influence of home-based and supervised exercise programs on women stress urinary incontinence: a randomized trialPublication . Ferreira, M.; Santos, Paula Clara; Duarte, J.To analyze the advantage of associating a supervised pelvic floor exercise program (SEP) to the conventional home prescribed exercise program (HEP) in the effectiveness of treatment of mild–moderate stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women.

Rodrigues, J.; Melo, CristinaThe major reason of this study was to analyze the prevalence of neuromusculoskeletal symptoms in Portuguese instrumentalists musicians. The influence of gender in the symptoms, as well as the most common symptoms and affected body regions, were also analyzed.
- Activation timings of the scapular stabilizers in subjects with a stroke affecting the right versus left hemispheresPublication . Ferreira, S.; Silva, Cláudia; Silva, A.; Carvalho, Paulo; Santos, RubimLesions affecting the right hemisphere influence the ability to plan the virtual reaching trajectory and, consequently the postural control. On the other hand, left hemisphere lesions affect the ability to select the adequate motor program to reach the target. This study aimed to explore the existence of differences at the activation timings and sequence of activation of the scapular stabilizers, mainly the serratus anterior, superior, middle and inferior trapezius fibers, in relation to the anterior deltoid, in subjects with a stroke affecting the right versus left hemispheres, during reaching. Besides, it aimed to establish comparisons between both sides of each subject and a group of subjects without of each subject and a group of subjects without pathology.
- Physical activity, physical fitness and metabolic risk factors in Azorean adolescentsPublication . Moreira, Carla M.; Santos, Rute; Vale, Susana; Santos, Paula Clara; Abreu, Sandra; Soares-Miranda, Luísa; Marques, Ana I.; Mota, JorgeThis study aimed to analyze the relationships between metabolic risk factors (MRF) with physical activity (PA) and physical fitness (PF) in a sample of Azorean adolescents.
