Speaking about the organizational context, people are the most active agents, having an essential role in impulsing and transforming the scenario through actions, however, in terms of human capital, we can infer that it is still not fully understood. Therefore, the goal of this search was to identify some of the organizational factors that are influenced by the informal organization, once it comes from the necessity people have on integrating social groups, based on shared interests. This way, when an informal organization exists it might influence the organizational behavior of any environment, including those which keep more formal characteristics, like public institutions. The methodology used here was exploratory, through case study combined with quantitative and qualitative analysis. Data was obtained throughout a formulary applied to public workers part of the technical administrative staff and also with structured interviews applied to the managers, all of them vinculated to Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Mato Grosso do Sul (IFMS), which was the analysis field for the study. The results show how the informal organization is felt by the workers, some positive and negative points of its influence, as well as its contribution on identifying some ways to enjoy it for the institution's own benefit.
