- A influência da indústria 4.0 no processo de internacionalização de PME em PortugalPublication . Cardoso, Ana Rita Moreira; Pereira, Raquel Susana da CostaDigitization of business is an imperative path for companies in today's context and reality. The integration of digital processes in production, industry and services has seen exponential growth, especially in recent decades, with the development of digital systems and technologies that have resulted in the concept of industry 4.0, also called the fourth industrial revolution. The business fabric, both European and Portuguese, consists mainly of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). However, they face major barriers that hinder their international expansion, despite being inserted in the economy of mainly developed countries. Technology, in addition to spreading globalization, also increases competition between companies, which makes it the propellant component for the expansion of these same companies. The internationalization process is completely interfered with by technology, especially information, allowing improvements in productivity, efficiency and management and also because it connects the world making it a "market without borders". For that reason, one question that arises and for which an answer is sought is: "What is the influence of Industry 4.0 on the process of Internationalization of SMEs in Portugal?". Following a qualitative methodology, through a case study with an interview in two companies, this work aims to explain the evolution from Industry 1.0 to Industry 4.0, to define and explain what Industry 4.0 consists of, how it is implemented and what implications it will have in SMEs in Portugal. In particular, we will try to understand how Industry 4.0, the digital systems and technologies can influence the internationalisation process of these SMEs. The fundamental conclusions that have been possible to draw from this work is that industry 4.0 is essential for the survival of SMEs, especially for those who want to resist, grow and be competitive in the international market.
