- Refractive index measurements of tissue and blood components and OCAs in a wide spectral rangePublication . Lazareva, Ekaterina N.; Oliveira, Luís; Yanina, Irina Yu; Chernomyrdin, Nikita V.; Musina, Guzel R.; Tuchina, Daria K.; Bashkatov, Alexey N.; Zaytsev, Kirill I.; Tuchin, Valery V.This chapter presents methods for measuring the refractive index (RI) of biological tissues and blood and their components in a wide range of wavelengths. The advantages and disadvantages of these methods are analyzed. The data for RIs of various biological tissues and blood components measured in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo in a wide spectral range are summarized. The RI kinetics during immersion optical clearing (OC) of tissues and blood are analyzed. The chapter also describes RI measurements of optical clearing agents (OCAs) using THz pulse spectroscopy.

Prof. Ekaterina Borisova is no longer amongst us. COVID-19 pulled away a brilliant scientist during the peak of her scientific career (see Fig. 1). All authors would like to express deepest condolences and sincere support to her family, friends, relatives and colleagues! We, therefore, rightfully commemorate her dedicated and devoted contribution to biophotonics, her readiness to always support, help, motivate and inspire all her colleagues and collaborators.
