Abstract(s)
The concept of Meta-Organization is an organizational term that has existed for some decades, however, only in recent years, this concept has been explored and gained greater visibility in society. This dissertation proposes to identify and characterize Portuguese and international Meta-Organizations that operate in the industrial sector. By using a bibliographic review that aimed to deepen concepts and knowledge related to the topic in question, having as examples the functioning of Meta-Organization, its different forms of structuring, levels of stratification, as well as the relationship between members, among others, some organizations were identified and characterized. Through its characterization, based on the analyzed cases, it is possible to observe that in the industrial sector, in terms of innovation, there is a tendency for the type of MetaOrganizational structure used, having all of studied examples adopted an opened coowner model (or managed ecosystem). These models have in common the training of its associates, connections with research support centers, as well as the existence of the share of experiences and knowledge between members. After characterization, it was then allowed to understand the importance of Meta-Organizations in the economy, as they promote greater business competitiveness, using business mutual assistance, resulting in a constant evolution and development of new technologies and also sustainable and profitable processes. This research work also allows the exploration of new themes regarding Meta-Organizations, having as examples a management based on digital platforms, their adaptability to industry 4.0, as well as, based on the circular economy, how to reduce the ecological footprint resorting to a policy of reusing waste from some members as raw materials for other members.
