Abstract(s)
In such a competitive market, it is increasingly important for organizations to adopt a culture of continuous improvement that involves all stakeholders within the organization. Continuous improvement of processes, increased efficiency, and waste elimination lead to a considerable enhancement of competitiveness in the market, not just economically but also technologically. The present study aimed to implement improvements in the manufacturing process of SNA Europe (Industries), Lda, in order to increase the productivity of lime production cells, using the Lean Thinking philosophy. The main objectives were to study the production line in question, evaluate its process, identify its main deficiencies, and select Lean Manufacturing tools that could be implemented to enhance the production process. The theoretical framework of the philosophy, including its principles and tools facilitating its implementation, is addressed in this work. Various case studies are presented and analyzed to highlight the application of the methodology and its results in the manufacturing process, illustrating how this methodology and its tools, such as OEE and Standard Work, can contribute to optimizing a production line. The study applied the Lean philosophy and continuous improvement tools to improve key performance indicators (KPIs) in the simple lime flat files production cell (C.P.S. 8-10"). Waste and low productivity were identified in the cell, resulting in an OEE of 44.42%. Proposals were made to update standard works, create a standardized setup kit, and develop new documents to assist with quality control. The implementation of the setup kit reduced setup time on some machines by 50.9%. All findings were shared with the Continuous Improvement Department for potential application in other areas of the company. It is concluded that the Kaizen philosophy is essential for achieving continuous incremental improvements, with active participation from employees and management to disseminate Lean principles throughout SNA Europe.
