Abstract(s)
The present work intends to deepen and develop the hydrogeomechanical study of fractured rock masses in the former water mines of the Paranhos-Salgueiros springs (Porto Urban area, NW Portugal). Besides contributing to a better hydrogeomechanical knowledge of the site and the influence of groundwater infiltration on these rock masses. A multi-technical approach allowed a comprehensive hydrogeomechanical analysis of the entire rock mass. The application of the Hydro-Potential Value (HP-Value) and Hydraulic Conductivity System (HC-System) hydrogeomechanical indices assisted the evaluation of the rock mass quality and geohydraulic circulation, involving a geological-geotechnical, geomechanical and hydrogeomechanical analysis of the entire tunnel length through data obtained by previous field campaigns, and different groundwater properties such as: flow rate (Q), hydraulic conductivity (K), transmissivity (T) and specific capacity (Q/s). Furthermore, the hydrogeomechanical zoning allowed dividing the massif into two zones, ZHGM1 and ZHGM2, both with variable RQD values, the former being the one that obtained the highest values in most of the parameters considered. In the end, it was verified that the application of the indices has the advantage of being a practical and straightforward method to use. However, its effectiveness could be more comprehensively evaluated through field studies.
