Abstract(s)
The kind and quantity of the food that we ingest have a huge impact on our overall well being. Diseases associated with particular dietary patterns are one of the major concerns of our public health institutes given that these diseases play a huge part in degrading the quality of life of millions, putting at risk the sustainability of our public health institutions. An unbalanced and inadequate plan of food intake can result in metabolic disorders, malnutrition, excess weight, low cognitive performance levels are other factors such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and cancer. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is considered as one of the epidemics of the XXI century. Due to its prevalence in today’s world, controlling and preventing further health problems associated with this disease has been one of the top priorities for our public health institutes.Whilst heredity has been identified as the main cause of origin in new cases of DM, obesity and sedenteriness still remain as the top causes for new cases of this particular pathology. With that in mind, it is essential that patients learn the importance of a healthy diet plan and the importance of physical exercise on a regular basis in order for them to become self-aware and to understand how important self-care really is. Having said this, it is important that we understand that constant monitoring and tracing of these patients play significant roles in achieving this goal. The soul purpose of this project is to develop a system that is able to assist and monitor patients with DM type 2 disease, in a way that it enables a more effective follow-up, monitoring and management of this disease and all of its side effects. The app must allow the diabetic patient to register, with thorough detail, their meals throughout the day, as well as their daily workout plan. Furthermore, the app should also be able to suggest different nutritional plans tailored for each user. In closing, we can come to terms with the fact that it was possible to develop a set of functionalities that are essential in monitoring a patient with type 2 DM in their daily routines, helping them in implementing healthier and overall better behaviours for their personal diet, as well as physical exercise on a regular basis.
