Abstract(s)
The theme, Homework is already discussed for several years, in Portugal, however, there is still no legislation that regulates and it is up to teachers and family to make decisions and create conditions for support in carrying out these tasks. However, we still have few studies on this issue mainly in TEIP contexts. In the present study we did a literature review and approached homework in a historical perspective. We present different categories/types of homework, factors that may influence its implementation, some objectives to be achieved with the homework implementation and features such as the time and the frequency with which these works should be proposed. Then we applied in a TEIP context, following a didactic planning, five homework suggestions, whose implementation was being reviewed, following a qualitative methodology, on a case study. The interview was also used to better understand the student’s perspective. For the data analysis, we can realize that homework are seen by most of the interviewed students as an added value in their learning process and that motivation is a key factor for a successful homework’s accomplishment. Homework suggestions that implied creativity’s use, motivated students more than others factors. Participating pupils prefer to do homework alone. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of what students think and feel about homework and find some of the factors that can influence the homework’s accomplishment.
