Abstract(s)
relações existentes entre o World Class Manufacturing (WCM) e a sustentabilidade.
abordagem simultânea a questões ambientais e sociais.
This dissertation, carried out at Colquímica, a Portuguese company dedicated to the development, production, and commercialization of industrial adhesives, aimed to study the relationships between World Class Manufacturing (WCM) and sustainability. With this purpose, the research question of this work is to “Identify impacts on the three pillars of sustainability, from the perspective of the Triple Bottom Line, in the application of the World Class Manufacturing methodology”. The search for answers was conducted through the Action Research methodology. The first stage involved studying the development of WCM, the FIAT model, and the applications of methodology; sustainability, with a focus on the concept of the Triple Bottom Line; and identifying connections through the analysis of literature and bibliographic data. For the development of the case study, a methodology was designed based on the pillars of Focused Improvement and Cost Deployment, which allowed for a detailed analysis of losses occurring in production lines. From this, one loss was targeted for improvement proposals that could impact the three pillars of sustainability: economic, social, and environmental. The 5W1H and 5 Whys tools enabled a visual structuring of the improvement opportunities identified in the failure, which were detected through a dynamic analysis of operations. The proposed improvements present the potential to influence all three pillars of sustainability through more reliable operations, workspace organization, improvements in employee discipline, and waste reduction, resulting in an expected minimum savings of 26 500 euros in materials. In the presentation to stakeholders, it was revealed that it is possible to reconcile business sustainability with the simultaneous approach to environmental and social issues. The case study made it possible to conclude that WCM has a positive effect on sustainability through a structured and dynamic analysis of losses and the formulation of proposals directed at organizational and social aspects of the organization, thereby strengthening the literature on WCM and sustainability.
