Abstract(s)
The present work aims to present a study about the main automobile powertrain technologies which are usual today, being then, models that use internal combustion engines, electrical models, electrical-hybrid, and fuel cell models, independent of the diffusion of the technology. The goals of this paper are to make a brief history of each model, showing aspects, technology and operation principles; to analyze how the types of actuation modifies the cars project; to compare according to the energy source on issues as performance and efficiency and; show the environmental impacts caused by the amount of pollutants emitted by each model to be studied, as well as the possible improvements in the users’ life quality due technological advances presented. Using automobiles target research as books, magazines, periodicals, norms, technical files in automakers websites, among others, to get concepts, it was possible extract enough material to this analytical research. The systems studied and discussed in this work allows analyses about which technology could be better used on the future, mainly aiming to eliminate dependence of oil-based fuels and reduce quantity of gases that are emitted to the atmosphere. To do the analyzes, a scale was created to categorize the selected models through a sustainability general index, created using a management tool known as Analytic Hierarchy Process.
