Abstract(s)
fragmentadas.
The surface layers in road pavements are mainly composed of stone materials, and the aggregate’s aptitude to polishing is a crucial factor when it comes to each layer’s behaviour in terms of adherence of the vehicles’ tyres. This paper deals with a study of the results of polishing tests on aggregates through the Polishing Stone Value (PSV) and it tries to determine a relationship, looking for trend values between the results obtained from this same polishing test and the aggregates’ origin and geological characteristics. The goal is to get to know an approximate PSV value beforehand, based on the origin and geological classification of a given aggregate. The second part of this paper consists of a study which attempts to improve the aggregates’ behaviour in terms of polishing, both by improving the aggregates’ Shape and Flakiness indexes,as well as by increasing their percentage of crushed surfaces.
