Abstract(s)
At a time when organizations are faced with new challenges and external adversities that, normally, represent risks not identified in a timely manner and, therefore, not evaluated, but whose impact, when revealed, are likely to jeopardize security and people's health, the environment, the evolution of the business itself and even the social responsibility of the organization. It becomes a priority to study new principles and tools capable of streamlining and enhancing assertiveness in decision-making by all participants in organizations, as well as improving the effectiveness and efficiency of processes, with priority being on combating waste, of any nature, function of the appreciation perceived by the customers themselves. Knowing that the Lean Six Sigma philosophy has been used successfully for some years now, in various sectors of activity, this dissertation aims to find answers to the following research question - What is the impact of the Lean Six Sigma philosophy on organizations with Systems Implemented Integrated Management (Quality, Environment and Safety)? In addition to the bibliographical research, a study was carried out using the survey methodology, developed through a questionnaire sent, via email, to 69.8% of organizations registered in the IPAC database, as holders of an Integrated Quality, Environment System and Security (SST), with different activities and located in different geographies of Portugal. To carry out the study, 398 questionnaires were sent, of which 20, due to contact difficulties, were considered null, meaning that the delivery of 378 questionnaires was validated. The period for receiving responses ran from August 12th to 31st, 2023, with 35 responses being collected and validated, whose data were analyzed and statistically treated using MS Excel and IBM SPSS Statistics. In the field of Lean Six Sigma tools, it was found that the most used in organizations are the 5S (85%) and the 5 Whys (70%). Regarding the combination of responses obtained regarding Lean Six Sigma tools, on a 5-point Likert scale, an average result of 4.0 points was achieved (Agree), and there was also good internal consistency, translated by a Cronbach alpha of 0.847. It is concluded that the implementation of practices and, above all, the use of tools associated with the Lean Six Sigma philosophy has an impact on the Integrated Management Systems implemented in organizations, enhancing the continuous improvement of processes, thus contributing to improving the efficiency of organizations and of customer satisfaction.
