Abstract(s)
In the past years, Portugal has shown deep concern regarding climate change and the environment. Being a country that thrives to change, it has become relevant to study alternative means to sustain our way of living, such as the introduction of renewable energies in the Portuguese energy system. In this context, the present dissertation was elaborated in a partnership with ERI - Engenharia, to size an auto-consumption photovoltaic system for its office building. With this system, ERI means to become a more auto-sufficient and sustainable company. Initially, an investigation was conducted about photovoltaic energy, about its equipment ,the different types of systems mostly used and its requirements. Afterwards, the building in which the system was to be implemented, was studied, to determine its orientation, solar exposition, available area and energy consumption. It was then possible to size two possible systems, one with energy storage and one without, which were described and analysed in the correspondent chapter. Both systems were evaluated techno economically, in terms of cost and the impact that the implementation would have in ERI’s energy consumption.
