Abstract(s)
This work follows a qualitative methodology, focusing on a case study, where an interdisciplinary experience involving the subjects of Maths and Physical Education is characterised. The aims of this research are to foster the student’s perception of the presence of Maths in Physical Education classes; to promote the involvement of the student in Maths’ learning using the subject of Physical Education and, last, to promote the understanding of the relationship between the contents studied in Maths and Physical Education. We pretend to answer some questions about this investigation: (1) How can students make connections between Maths and Physical Education classes? (2) How can they work Maths contents in Physical Education classes? (3) How can Physical Education promote the students involvement in Maths learning? Three training situations were developed, one in a Physical Education class and two in Maths classes. The predominant content area was organization and processing of data. The students had an active role in the construction of their own knowledge. The data was collected in audio and video recordings, photographs, students’ assignments and records made by the teacher investigator. The results revealed how the students mobilised Maths contents in the Physical Education class and showed, through content analysis, that it is possible to involve and motivate the students to learning Maths, resorting to Physical Education.
