Abstract(s)
This work discusses aspects of soil treatment using hydraulic binders such as cement and lime. It aims at describing the formulation methodology, in a laboratory environment, in order to achieve a technical and financial balance on the optimization of the percentage of these hydraulic binders in the treatment of soils. The interaction occurred in the mixture between the hydraulic binder and the ground is achieved by means of pHysico-chemical reactions whose purpose is to improve the geotechnical characteristics of the soil itself. The focus is on the variations of strength and deformability, in order to use the smaller amount of hydraulic binder as possible. It is also an objective of this study, to address the replacement of hydraulic binders financially more expensive, such as cement, by cheaper ones, such as lime, without losing the characteristics showed by the strength and deformability mixtures parameters. In the context of the laboratory study, two soil types were tested, from works belonging to the Mota Engil Engineering and Construction S.A. company, which were collected in the works of Pedrógão Pipeline (sandy lean clay (CL)) and Sublicensing Douro Interior - Lot 6 (well-graded sand with silt (SWSM)).
