Nota-se uma recente preocupação por parte destas localidades em valorizar e aproveitar as características únicas da sua linha de costa, possuidora das condições ideais para a prática de diversos desportos náuticos. Estes têm marcado os territórios do litoral Norte, impulsionando o seu reconhecimento e promoção, como destinos singulares, onde os rios marcam a identidade do território e o mar apresenta-se como um imponente recurso, aliado ao vento norte. Esta investigação tem como objeto geral analisar o comportamento do turista náutico desportivo nas EN do litoral Norte de Portugal. Já os objetivos específicos passam por entender as motivações do turista náutico desportivo, perceber as características mais valorizadas na escolha da EN e avaliar o grau de satisfação relativamente ao destino náutico. A metodologia adotada foi a quantitativa, aplicando-se um questionário a uma amostra de 100 turistas náuticos desportivos. Por conseguinte, os dados foram tratados no programa SPSS. Após a análise, constatou-se que as motivações dos turistas náuticos desportivos que participam como ativos (desportistas) se prendem com o contacto com a água e natureza, saúde e bem-estar, relaxar e relacionamento/convívio. Já as motivações dos turistas náuticos passivos (espectadores) compreendem o relaxamento, o contacto coma água e natureza, a participação/ observação em eventos náuticos e obter novas experiências. Por sua vez, identificou-se que as características mais valorizadas pelo turista quando escolhe um destino náutico são a localização, a qualidade e abundância de recursos hidrográficos, a limpeza de praias, rio e mar, os parques de estacionamento, as condições meteorológicas e marítimas, as acessibilidades e os painéis informativos. No que respeita à satisfação turística, os inquiridos mostraram-se maioritariamente satisfeitos com a sua experiência nas EN do litoral Norte de Portugal. As características do destino com que se mostraram mais satisfeitos foram a localização, a qualidade/abundância de recursos hidrográficos, a beleza paisagística, a gastronomia e as condições meteorológicas/ marítimas. Descobriu- se ainda as características que foram avaliadas com um menor grau de satisfação. Esta investigação visa constituir-se como um complemento ao conhecimento e literatura existente sobre turismo náutico desportivo. Fornece uma perspetiva que transparece as motivações, opiniões e satisfação destes indivíduos, e por isso uma visão próxima de como os destinos náuticos poderão gerir e melhorar a experiência turística dos visitantes.Nowadays, nautical tourism in Portugal has taken on an important role in the development of various coastal regions. These localities have shown a recent concern in valorize and take advantage of the unique characteristics of their coastlines, which offer ideal conditions for practicing several water sports. These sports have marked the territories of the north coast, boosting their recognition and promotion as unique destinations, where the rivers mark the identity of the territory and the sea presents itself as an imposing resource, allied to the north wind. The main aim of this research will be to analyze the behavior of nautical sports tourists at the nautical destinations on the north coast of Portugal. The specific objectives are to understand the motivations of the nautical sports tourist, to understand the characteristics most valued when choosing the nautical destination and to assess the level of satisfaction with the nautical destination. Three hypotheses were also created to relate some of these variables. The methodology chosen was quantitative research. A questionnaire was administered to a sample of 100 nautical sports tourists. The data was then processed using the SPSS programme. After analysing the data, it was found that the motivations of active nautical sports tourists (athletes) are related to the contact with water and nature, health and well-being, relaxation and relationships. The motivations of passive nautical tourists (spectators) include relaxation, contact with water and nature, taking part in/watching nautical events and obtaining new experiences. In turn, it was identified that the characteristics most valued by tourists when choosing a nautical destination are location, quality and abundance of hydrographic resources, cleanliness of beaches, rivers and sea, car parks, weather and sea conditions, accessibility and information panels. Finally, regarding tourist satisfaction, the majority of respondents were satisfied with their experience in the nautical destinations on the north coast of Portugal. The characteristics of the destination with which they were most satisfied were the location, the quality/abundance of hydrographic resources, the scenic beauty, the gastronomy and the weather/sea conditions. It was also observed the main characteristics that were rated with the lowest level of satisfaction. This research complements the existing knowledge about nautical sports tourism.
