Aprendendo naturalmente: a importância da oralidade na aquisição da língua inglesa

Abstract

Este trabalho tem especial enfoque na oralidade e a importância desta na aprendizagem da língua inglesa. Aborda-se, inicialmente, a criança e as particularidades desta na aquisição de uma segunda língua. Refere-se a distinção de língua e linguagem e salientase as diferenças existentes, ao nível fonológico, entre a língua inglesa e portuguesa. Atendendo a que o ponto de partida e público-alvo são as crianças procede-se à exposição de diferentes teorias e métodos de aprendizagem de uma segunda língua, dando especial relevância ao Natural Approach, Teoria da Inteligências Múltiplas, Total Physical Response e Communicative Language Teaching. De seguida, e visto que as crianças em idade precoce não dominam a leitura e a escrita, analisa-se o ensino do inglês em Portugal e aborda-se a importância da oralidade na aprendizagem da língua inglesa e do desenvolvimento de atividades que promovam as competências de ouvir e falar. Finalmente, apresenta-se algumas atividades que promovem o desenvolvimento da oralidade, especificamente songs, tongue twisters e nursery rhymes e storytelling.

This work focuses on oral activities as essential to the acquisition of English language. Initially, we refer the particularities of children on the acquisition of a second language. The phonological differences between Portuguese and English language are also exposed and analysed. Natural Approach, Multiple Intelligences, Total Physical Response and Communicative Language Teaching are exposed and analysed as methods and theories for the acquisition/learning of a second language by children. As Young Learners don’t know how to read and write, we focus on the importance of oral activities that help promoting listening and speaking skills in learning English as a second language. We also analyse the organization of English as Second Language in Portuguese Schools. Finally, songs, tongue twisters and nursery rhymes and storytelling are pointed out as activities that promote the development of oral skills.
